Thread Stories - thread painting in Houston

Hello all...I just got back from a whirlwind trip to Houston.  I had five quilts exhibited at the show.  I spoke to over 700 of you in seminars and classes that I taught there.  Lots of fun!  These are the quilts that were hanging in the hall.  I loved teaching my all day class in Houston.  My students understood the technique and many of them are joining me for my five day intensive class in Santa Fe in 2015.  You can go to my website to learn more about my classes. www.jdaydesign.com  I am already looking forward to next year!

thread painting with Lauren

My students never fail to amaze me.  Lauren attended my Thread Stories class to learn my thread painting technique with me at my studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Here is the quilt she just finished and entered into the Houston IQA show.  We are both entered in the same category.  It is my hope we will both be in the winners circle this year!

RideJimmyRide - cycling

My Husband, Jimmy Day, just got his website up and running:  www.ridejimmyride.com
Check it out. His blog is really funny.  Now you can keep up with both of us!

Ride Jimmy Ride // Mission

In 2014, Jimmy Day will attempt to become the first Masters Racer age 50+ to compete in all four international Championships and all five USA Cycling Championships in a single year.  That is a total of nine world and national Championships in a single year. He will compete in the age sixty to sixty-four bracket, and he has already placed in the top ten in his first two races of this challenge: UCI Masters World Cyclo-Cross and USA Masters Cyclo-Cross, which were held in January.  Racing a different type of bicycle and utilizing a different method of training for each of the five cycling disciplines, Jimmy’s goal is to establish himself as a ‘Jack-of-All-Trades’ cyclist, who is competitive at a national and world competition level on each type of bike. Pitting himself against ex-professionals, ex-Olympians, and champions, Jimmy considers himself kind of a member of ‘Team Fred;’ he is just a normal guy who started riding his road bike around the neighborhood a few years ago and got hooked.

Here Jimmy is racing Cyclocross, a winter sport in Europe that is taking the USA by storm.  Jimmy raced in Switzerland at the World Championship and came in 10th, then came back to the USA and raced the National races five days later.  He won 9th place at Nationals!!

Child portrait thread painting by jennifer day

I have been working hard on my quilt for Celebrating silver.  I am in the final stretch now!  This is a two year old girl.  I was able to capture her sweet face very well.  I can't show everyone the whole quilt until its unavailing at the IQF show in Houston 2014.  Darn.  I have another two days of stitching left and am up to 87 threads in this quilt!

Tired after a long day thread painting with Jennifer Day

B Bear, the dog, hung with me throughout the completion of the last quilt.  I was on a deadline and spent  many long hours at the machine.  Seems like this put the Old English Sheep Dog over the top!  Now it is down time for both of us for a day before tackling the next project.

Here is what the boy looks like when he is sitting next to me as I sew.  What a difference!
